Safe Exercise at Every Stage
The SEES Guideline
The Safe Exercise at Every Stage (SEES) guideline was developed to support clinicians and exercise professionals manage exercise during treatment for an eating disorder.
We are a group of clinicians and researchers facilitating the incorporation and management of exercise in eating disorder treatment in a safe and evidence based manner.
As many as four in five individuals with eating disorders engage in dysfunctional exercise behaviours.
Dysfunctional exercise does not have to be strenuous exercise (like running or high-intensity gym sessions) but can include incidental movement and activities of daily living.
Engaging in unmodified exercise without adequate nutrition during eating disorder treatment can lead to a host of negative and psychological complications.
The Safe Exercise at Every Stage Guideline is a tool to support clinicians navigate this complex behavior and work with their patients to help them find life long fulfilling relationships with movement across their lives.
